Irene’s current works are developed from found items. Her response to these objects is to regard them as treasure. In recent works Irene has used the metal ice plating from a rotting wooden canal working boat being restored in her boat yard at Braunston. The surface transformation produced amazing textures that describe the canals’ industrial past.
Irene has been an artist all her life. Commercial art training led to illustration. Textiles became more important later in life, and they appear in her current work, along with many other materials. Her work has a continuing reference to stitch, whether in wire, metal or concrete.
Irene is currently studying for a BA Fine Art with Textiles at Chichester University.
